“…the
most beautiful picture cannot do justice to it”.
These words were uttered by the famous photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson
during one of his stays in Pantelleria. We cannot deny it: one
of the secrets of such success is the surprise you feel in front
of such a simple beauty that it looks strikingly violent and
baffling.
Its uniqueness makes Pantelleria one of the most coveted tourist
destinations. Among the happy “victims” of this
spell, there are some famous people who, in the heart of Sicilian
Mediterranean Sea, have created their glamorous houses, their
“dammusi” which properly respect nature and landscape.
The word “dammuso” (from the Arab “damus”,
just like other names on the island) refers to the peculiar
architecture of the local houses, which are cube-shaped and
have a vaulted roof.
